Sail Canada Basic Cruising Standard

Ideal for novice sailors and those seeking more experience on the ocean, this 'cruise and learn' course is generally completed during a 5 day voyage on board SV Tula. Learning to be a better-educated and safer sailor will enhance your confidence and enjoyment.

Every day on board is a learning adventure cruising throughout the Gulf Islands –  a perfect combination of hands-on participation and instruction based on the Sail Canada Basic Cruising module.

The objective of this course is for the student to be able to cruise safely in familiar waters as both skipper and crew of a sloop rigged keelboat of at least 6 to 10 meters in moderate wind and sea conditions by day. Certification requires a curriculum of Ashore Knowledge and approximately 18 hours afloat experience with practical hands-on application of cruising skills.
