5 Day Cruising Itinerary

Imagine sailing away from it all out on Canada's West Coast. Get hands-on experience and sailing school training aboard a fully-equipped 39' sailboat, while exploring some of the world's best cruising grounds – Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands of British Columbia.

To give you a better idea, here is a sample itinerary for a five day adventure. This schedule includes taking the Sail Canada Basic Cruising Standard certification (the SC Intermediate Cruising Standard is similar) and we still allow plenty of time for quality R&R.

Generally we take two students onboard per course. We plan every voyage with our guests before departure, so you have lots of options for making the sailing experience you've been dreaming about. Flexibility is the key – weather and tides help determine our ports of call and daily activities.

Day 1

08:00            Pick up at Victoria Airport or BC Ferries,
                    or meet at North Saanich Marina
08:30-12:00   Safety, Radio and Deck Briefings,
                    Onshore Course
12:30            Depart from dock for first anchorage

Day 2

07:00            Breakfast on Tula
08:00-9:00     Pre-departure Briefing & Voyage Planning
10:00-15:00   Sailing including MOB practice
15:00            Anchor in quiet cove
15:00-17:00   Review Module #1 SA Course
17:00            Cocktail Hour
18:00            Dinner & instructional video
22:00            Lights out

Day 3 & 4

We generally follow the same format as Day 2, but try to include a different activity each day. Both the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island offer great places to explore with hiking, fishing and crabbing, and other activities to be decided on by students. Days under sail may be longer depending on conditions.
Briefings and SC Modules are reviewed daily.

Day 5

07:00            Breakfast on Tula
08:00            Pre-departure Briefing and Voyage Planning
10:00-13:00   Sailing skills
13:00            Anchor in a Marina or at dock
13:30            Written exam on board
17:00            Return to port and make travel connections
